"This incredible power house of a woman worked for me for a number of years and after leaving my company has gone on to continue to achieve great things.
I know a lot of entrepreneurs and business leaders who get really narky when people leave their company, however people leave roles for so many different reasons, and quite often it’s just accepting that the business is in a different stage to what it was when they joined, and their skill set (and drive and ambition) is better suited to a business who is in that same stage your business was when they joined as opposed to what it is now. And that’s ok - it’s not a negative reflection of either you or them it’s just different.
I remember being personally devastated when Sunny left because I loved working with her, but I respected her decision because essentially I was being selfish and thinking about what was good for me not for her - she had different ambitions to where my company was right then and she needed to pursue these (and as much as I could have cajoled or put pressure on her to stay, I knew deep down she would have always resented me for it).
It’s an important lesson that I think all entrepreneurs, leaders and managers need to learn , understand their decision with empathy and help them make the right one for them as well as you, then they will always respect you because they know and believe you genuinely care for them too."
